Committed Team
The Committed Project team is a group of higher education professionals who have each found a way to advocate and educate others about mental illness and the particular stigma those in higher education careers may face. We are dedicated to supporting our fellow professionals and continuing to spread awareness about mental illness to eradicate that stigma.
Kristen Abell
Kristen Abell is one of the two co-founders of The Committed Project and is our Executive Director of Awareness and Advocacy. She serves as a web developer at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and has been in student affairs for fifteen years, in a variety of roles. She’s worked primarily in housing and women’s centers at three different universities over that time. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology, women’s studies and English and a master’s in social welfare from the University of Kansas.
Kristen has been blogging since 2006, and she was a co-founder of and blogger at the Student Affairs Women Talk Tech collaborative blog. She has presented both regionally and nationally on a variety of topics in student affairs. Kristen blogs frequently about the issue of mental illness, especially her depression, and she is excited to take her efforts to stomp out stigma in higher education to the next level.

She owns a small freelance business, illustrates electronic and print books and enjoys creating her #suedles. Her favorite days are spent walking to a local shop with a dozen of her favorite markers and drawing for hours. She lives in New York (more commonly known as New Yawk) with her better half Dan and their furbaby Tony.
